The Big Picture

This was the last working week before the holidays, and the list reflected it: a long tail of meeting-cancellation notices as teams wound down, set against a few genuinely important announcements. The headline items for everyone are two hard dates: OpenStack's metrics dashboard moves from Bitergia to LFX Insights on January 15, 2026, and the 2026.1 "Gazpacho" coordinated release schedule is now firmly tracked. Hervé Beraud closed out 2025 with a strong year-end Eventlet-removal recap, the OpenInfra Foundation published its 2025 Annual Report, and the TC confirmed PTL and TC elections will run in February. We're at R-15.

Releases & Announcements

OpenStack metrics dashboard moves to LFX Insights — Bitergia retires January 14. Ildikó Váncsa announced that starting January 15, 2026 the LFX Insights OpenStack dashboard becomes the primary metrics dashboard for OpenInfra projects. The legacy Bitergia dashboard is available only through January 14, 2026. Two practical notes: (1) the LFX dashboard is still under active construction, so the displayed metrics will differ from Bitergia's; (2) for privacy reasons, LFX doesn't display contributor affiliation by default — you need an LF account (or create one) to manage your affiliation. Member organizations also get the LF Organization Dashboard for a company view.

Eventlet Removal — year-end recap. Hervé Beraud thanked the community for 2025 with concrete numbers: 20 deliverables fully migrated, 40 actively in progress, 424 Gerrit patches contributed this year. Ironic, Heat, Barbican, Mistral and others are done; Neutron is "one step away"; Nova can run specific services in threading mode; Cinder, Designate, Watcher, Cyborg, etc. are visibly moving. oslo.service now ships a fully threading-based backend; Cotyledon is progressing toward new spawning methods; eventlet itself gained Python 3.12/3.13/3.14 support to ease the transition. This is the rare cross-cutting initiative that's actually finishing.

OpenInfra Foundation 2025 Annual Report. Allison Price shared the 2025 Annual Report — themes include continued production adoption, OpenStack's role in AI infrastructure / edge / sovereign cloud, and collaboration with Kata, StarlingX, Zuul, Kubernetes and Ceph. (LinkedIn announcement.)

TC R-15 summary. Goutham Pacha Ravi's weekly confirms Ian Y Choi (ianychoi) and Slawek Kaplonski (slaweq) will continue as election officials with Tony Breeds (tonyb) as TC liaison for the combined PTL and TC elections in February. Cleanup of Monasca and governance-sigs is wrapping up; brainstorming on the Technical Vision rewrite is in flight; Michał Nasiadka is working on an x86-v3 OVS for AlmaLinux while a packaging fix is pursued with AlmaLinux maintainers. Blazar's "send the entire lease data" feature confirmed for 2026.1. Matt Crees confirmed the Blazar notification payload extension will ship in 2026.1, with the planned release at the start of April 2026.

Development & Technical Decisions

Skyline OIDC fix merged on master. Following from the earlier weeks' debugging, Taavi Ansper reports that the Skyline OIDC fix at skyline-apiserver/+/969759 has merged into master and is asking about the backport process to 2025.2 (backport at +/971481).

Ironic retires VirtualPDU. Jay Faulkner proposed retiring VirtualPDU "either this cycle or next." Since Ironic's SNMP code is being removed next cycle and CI for VirtualPDU is already gone, the project — which only ever mapped SNMP calls to libvirt power actions for devstack and was never production-shipped — no longer has a purpose. Speak up if you object.

QA contributor onboarding. Ghanshyam Maan opened an etherpad to onboard new and current OpenStack contributors into QA projects (upstream investment opportunity reference). Current focus: moving Tempest tests to SRBAC defaults (four contributors started); the etherpad also lists project documentation and open bugs.

Designate multi-region PRIMARY/SECONDARY NS records. Sylvain opened a thoughtful design question about Designate's restriction that prevents updating root-zone NS records, which blocks a multi-region PRIMARY/SECONDARY topology where each pool has a single nameserver per region. The default workaround (pool-level changes) is impractical because it affects every zone created in that pool. Worth following for anyone running multi-region Designate.

Heartbeat ping discussion (continued). Arnaud Morin's response to Thomas Goirand's proposal — flagging OVH's prior experience with rpc_ping_enabled (oslo.messaging/+/735385, Neutron docs) — continues into this week's coverage as design feedback.

Heads Up / Action Needed

  • Update your LFX profile/affiliation if you want your contributions correctly attributed in the new dashboard (openprofile.dev).
  • Masakari is restarting bi-weekly IRC meetings. Sei Sano (NTT) proposed restarting the long-paused Masakari meetings on a bi-weekly cadence with a kick-off in late December — see the restart etherpad. Operators with Masakari-driven HA deployments should plug in here.
  • Neutron CI, Team and Drivers meetings cancelled for the next two weeks (Dec 17 → Jan 5) per Brian Haley's note; Horizon weekly, Kolla weekly, Manila weekly, Watcher (Dec 25 + Jan 1), Blazar (Dec 25), Magnum (Dec 23, Jan 6; resuming Jan 20), and the Public Cloud SIG (Dec 31) are all on holiday.
  • Freezer IRC meeting time is locked in. Dmitriy Rabotyagov reports Monday 15:00–16:00 UTC as the winning slot (poll results, irc-meetings patch +/971074, wiki).

Community & Events

The December 19 Ops Radio Hour recap (Ildikó Váncsa) wrapped the year as a retrospective. The group affirmed the series will continue in 2026, with a short survey planned to gauge preferences on time slots and cadence (alternating slots are on the table for global accessibility). The next call is January 23, 2026 at 1300 UTC; meeting recording is on YouTube, notes on the etherpad. The pre-holiday Cinder Festival of Reviews ran December 19 (etherpad: cinder-festival-of-reviews; ICS).
